Who is this course for?

Is this course for me?

Helping to build your confidence with responsible raw feeding advice.

The aim of this course is to provide unbiased information on Raw Feeding.

Love it or hate it, as veterinary professionals we need to be able to open a discussion with clients to ensure that they are feeding raw food safely.

Many pet owners will not share that they raw feed to vets or nurses, for fear of being told it is harmful, but we know that owners can feel very passionately about their choice of feeding, and It is important to ensure that clients feel supported in this decision.

About Katie

Instructor Bio:

RVN CPD Instructor Katie McCaul RVN BSc Animal Behaviour/Physiology DIP Naturopath

I qualified in 1998 and became Head nurse in a 3 branch mixed practice. My time in practice taught me many skills including running clinics, dealing with company representatives, tricky clients and a team of nurses and vets. I very much enjoyed my role as an NVQ assessor teaching the trainee Vet nurses. After leaving practice I was lucky enough to complete a BSc in Animal Behaviour and Physiology. This taught me about the evolutionary path our domesticated pets had been on and how innate behaviour and physiology are the key to happiness and health. Since university I have taught on the VN degree program, worked with Wiltshire Wildlife trust, and returned to practice part time. My present role as research and development manager at a Pet Food Company, has been an education into the pet food industry. Leading me to achieve a diploma in Naturopathy, use diet formulation software and run a research project. I am passionate about supporting Veterinary nurses in practice and providing unbiased balance education to enable informed choices for clients.

I am very lucky to work in a practice that promotes the benefits of feeding a raw food species appropriate diet to our patients which has lead me to become a raw feeder to my own cat; a 14 year old domestic shorthair whom i rehomed. We stock a variety of PFMA approved brands in practice who have provided us with information but what i loved most about this course was that it is completely unbias there are no mentions of companies/brands and Katie is very honest in stating that raw feeding isn't for everyone or every patient and that's okay. I am a clinic nurse and discuss diet with many of my clients so this course was perfect for me. I now feel my raw feeding knowledge has improved and i found myself following Katie's advice with a client last week who was recovering post-operatively. I think its massively important all veterinary professionals are aware of how to advise clients on raw feeding safely and the potential risks associated with it. We should be encouraging and supporting owners and ensuring they are feeding good quality diets. Whether you agree with raw feeding or not this is a course i would recommend to all veterinary professionals. i think it is much better to be able to say 'that is not an area i am familiar with but did you know our vet/veterinary nurse ... has an interest in raw feeding and i would like to refer you on to them to discuss it' than just saying 'never ever raw feed your pets', I found the course well run and easy to follow and i love that their were attachments and mini tasks we could complete as well as the module quizzes at the end. Overall i would highly recommend this course and innovet-cpd and look forward to putting my new knowledge to use! Many thanks. Chloe Little RVN.
