The aim of this course is to increase your confidence in radiography by helping you to better understand the practical physics involved, and how this can impact image quality

The aim of this course is to increase your confidence in radiography by helping you better understand the practical physics involved, and how this can impact image quality.

You will be covering X-ray generation, and the various types of X-ray image processing, and how they work. Including information on radiation safety, which has recently become a hotter topic with the changes to radiation regulations in the UK.

There is an emphasis in how to better understand the impact of kV and mAs on image quality- with examples as to how manipulating these can help you get the best diagnostic yield from each image that you take.

One module is a refresher on the most common patient positioning, and includes exposure selection, and how these relate to achieving the best from the equipment that you have available in your practice.

In addition, you will cover the basics of how CT and MRI work, including touching on some of the most common MRI sequences, and what to consider when these valuable and increasingly popular modalities are being used, including patient preparation, and considerations while patients are being scanned.

A whole module is dedicated to the use of ultrasound- and what the various controls enable you to do with your ultrasound scanner, and how understanding these can help you optimise image quality. Also covering system care and probe types, and which ones to use when scanning In addition, I will cover image storage- which is often a very overlooked part of diagnostic imaging.

In the final module you will cover optimising your radiography images, and how to identify most of the commonly seen image quality artefacts, and the importance of using a grid.

The aim is for you to feel more confident in all forms of diagnostic imaging, and I hope to share my passion for good image quality to everyone who undertakes this course.

Kat Evans Bsc (Hons) Radiography

Instructor Bio:

BSc (Hons) Radiography Kat Evans

After qualifying as a human radiographer in 1995 I worked in a selection of human hospitals, before moving into CT and MRI scanning. Initially working on mobile trucks for Lister Healthcare travelling around the UK. I was then given the opportunity to begin doing Veterinary MRI scanning, and in time ran the Veterinary MRI team, before leaving to work at Fitzpatrick Referrals, setting up their MRI and CT service, as well as covering their digital imaging suites too. I moved to BCF Technology in 2000 (now IMV Imaging) as an account manager, and was involved from the beginning in their clinical team. Whilst at IMV I have provided applications support on CT, and a range different direct digital and computed radiography systems as well as Fluoroscopy too, often being called on to help with image quality questions, and I am actively involved in training our own staff as well as customers I have lectured at BVNA congress on multiple years, at Vets 4 Pets congress, and for the College of Animal Welfare and others as a guest speaker. I regularly lecture for region CPD events in the UK and Ireland, and also at a number of colleges. I was lucky enough to be invited to speak at EAVDI-BID congress in 2017, and at the European CT Users congress in 2017.
