Who is this course for?

Is this course for me?.

Designed for those who live with, work with or want to understand more about dogs.

The conversations with Dogs Bitesize course, aims to further strengthen the bond between humans and dogs through improved mutual understanding and better communication.

To truly understand dog behaviour and how they communicate, you need first to put yourself in their shoes/paws.

This amazingly comprehensive bitesize course does this through up-to-date canine behavioural studies , which will teach you exactly what dogs are saying to us and each other through a variety of signals, facial expressions, body movements and vocal communications, and shows you how by simply altering our own behaviour to act and react to this input, in ways that are meaningful to the dog.

A must for all Veterinary Professionals working with Canine Patients and as informed Dog owners too.

Why gaining an understanding of Canine Communication is so important.

A dog’s entire body is a part of their communications, from nose to tail.

It's essential if working with Canine patients that we fully understand these often subtle and masked signals, to ensure a reduced stress experience for the Dog in Veterinary practice.

Some of this communication may be intentional, others unintentional – instead simply an expression of an emotional state that is not under the dog’s voluntary control.

• Approaching and then retreating from something
• Moving or leaning away from something
• Startling easily / jumpy / freezing

Many dog friendly dogs make use of a few mild appeasement signals when wanting to engage with another, along with affiliative signals.

The presence of appeasement signals can show a conflicted state, likely due to a lack of confidence.

Instructor Bio:

Lisa Hird

I have two rescue dogs and have worked with dogs for over 30 years. Educated to a degree level, I have much experience with all breeds, supporting many dog rescues. I am co-director and course tutor for Without Worry Canine Education, delivering training on canine behaviour. I also own Dog Behaviour Clinic, using only force-free methods providing the owner with effective management and training skills. I undertake veterinary referrals and work very closely with my own Vets. Creating a fear-free, cooperative care experience for dogs is my passion. I do not use cruel or harsh methods. I believe in relationship-centred training and knowing what the dog says to us through his body language. We must always consider the emotional needs of the individual dog.
