Driven by her enthusiasm for all things microscopic, Dr Kate Baker is a veterinary clinical pathologist on a mission to help veterinary professionals become more comfortable with and excited by, cytology and haematology.
Kate grew up in Nashville, TN and completed her DVM degree at the University of Tennessee in 2012. Following veterinary school, she completed a small animal surgery and medicine rotating internship and then a Clinical Pathology Residency and Masters program at the University of Illinois. She became board certified in Veterinary Clinical Pathology in 2016.
Dr Baker has particular academic interest in infectious diseases and haematological disorders and has published works in major veterinary clinical pathology textbooks and journals. However, one of the main joys of her career thus far has been teaching veterinary professionals and watching frustrations transform into confidence and excitement. She is the creator and moderator of the highly active Facebook group "Veterinary Cytology Coffeehouse: Cases and Conversation" and Speaks internationally at conferences.
In her time outside of the lab, she enjoys woodworking, music festivals and trying new craft beers from breweries around the world. She loves spending time with her husband Will (who is an ER Veterinarian) and 2 year old son, Anderson. They live in Louisville, KY in a 110 year old renovated farmhouse and share their home with two angry but loveable Chihuahuas.
